Davening with the Egalitarian Minyan

  Davening with the Minyan

Davening

The Minyan holds services every Shabbat morning and on holidays at 9:15 am at the building of Temple Menorah at 7350 N. California in West Rogers Park.

Our service uses the Conservative movement's prayer book Sim Shalom. The service is a traditional Conservative service conducted mostly in Hebrew, with a D'var Torah (short talk or discussion) given by members in English. The atmosphere is casual and much of the service is sung out loud.

We do not have a rabbi who conducts services, although a number of our members are rabbis in other capacities in the community. Minyan members lead all of the services. Each week a different member coordinates the service. This weekly coordinator arranges for Torah readers and persons to lead each part of the service and gives out aliyot.

Members are also encouraged to periodically participate in the service as their skill level permits. This can range from opening the ark or taking an aliyah to reading Torah, Haftarah, leading Davening, or giving a D'var Torah. There are members who can teach these skills to those who wish to learn. The Minyan is unique in the amount of participation it allows its members. This participatory element gives members a wonderful sense of satisfaction and fulfillment.

Daily Services

We have a shaharit daily minyan at 6:45 AM. On days on which Hallel/Musaf is said (Rosh Hodesh, Hanukah) it is at 6:30 AM. On Sundays and national holidays (e.g. Thanksgiving) it is at 8 AM.

High Holidays

The Minyan holds services throughout the High Holidays. Dues are reasonable. Call us for more specific dues information.
