THE EGALITARIAN MINYAN OF ROGERS PARK

  Kids at the Minyan

The Minyan provides programming for children during most services. There are Gan rooms (play rooms) which are divided by age. There is a babysitter for the younger children (ages 1-6) and a room for kids ages 7 through Bar Mitzvah staffed by members who take turns supervising the children on a rotating basis. There is a tot service and singing in the younger Gan and a short study session for the older group. Children are welcome to remain in the service with their parents as well and are encouraged to participate by opening the ark, reading the Maftir aliyah of the Torah reading, or leading the singing of Ein Kelohainu or Adon Olam.

For middle school and high school aged students, the Minyan has an active Kadimah and USY chapter together with Ner Tamid-Ezra Habonim and Bnai Emunah congregations. Activities include social programs, lounge nights, social action, religious and educational programming. There are a number of USY regional events that the teens are encouraged to participate in as well.

The Minyan participates in the SKIP program. SKIP is a cooperative program in which families, congregations and the Jewish Federation of Chicago each contribute funds toward an educational program in Israel for participating students. Children in grades 3-6 are eligible to enroll. The money can be used toward an approved trip to Israel any time between the end of ninth grade and five years after graduation from college.
